NEXTFOAM Co., Ltd.

NEXTFOAM was founded in 2011 as a technology-based engineering consulting company based on OpenFOAM, an open-source CFD code, with the goal of changing the paradigm in the field of physical phenomenon simulation. Since then, it has developed into a leading consulting company in Korea in the field of thermal & fluids with the participation of experts from various industries. It has expanded its scope to the field of imaging measurement using optics and artificial intelligence as well as thermal fluids, and currently has a total of 25 employees.

Now in its 15th year in 2025, NEXTFOAM has conducted more than 300 consulting projects with more than 100 organizations including industrial companies, research institutes, universities, and public institutions. We have continued academic activities such as special sessions, sponsorships, and exhibition booths at various conferences such as the Korean Society for Computational Fluids Engineering, the Korean Society for Aeronautical and Space Sciences, and the Society of Naval Architects of Korea, and have published more than 130 papers in domestic and international journals and conferences.

CFD is still a research and development tool available to a small group of professionals with master’s and doctoral degrees, and has yet to expand beyond the lab to product design, development, and after-sales service. This is due to the high cost of analysis programs and the impact of using appropriate grid systems, boundary conditions, and numerical analysis techniques on the accuracy of results. NEXTFOAM aims to address these issues by providing open source programs, providing problem-specific solutions, and providing expert consulting.

By making CFD, a powerful solution to thermal and fluid problems, easily available to anyone who needs it, we aim to improve the performance of products and systems and make life safer and more comfortable. We also want to free experts in the field of CFD from repetitive modeling and allow them to focus on higher-level research and development.

OpenFOAM® (Open Field Operation and Manipulation) is an open source CFD code. It uses the GNU General Public License (GPL), which means that anyone can freely download and use it, and it is still being developed by many researchers around the world. We are releasing our own fork of OpenFOAM under the name NextFOAM for further development.

OKUC is a community of Korean users created in 2012. Since our first community meeting in 2012, we have been organizing a community event called OKUCC (OpenFOAM Kores Users’ Community Conference) every year. More than 100 OpenFOAM users and interested parties gather for two days to share their experiences and socialize.
